I'm moving to Dallas: what neighborhoods in the city are affordable, safe, and cool?
By "affordable" I mean a 3 bedroom home in neighborhood where a woman would feel safe walking a dog in the evening for under 300K. I know that describes Lake Highlands and that it may even be possible to find something in Lakewood for that price. Any place else worth looking? Anyone know of a good site/reference for neighborhood overviews? Are Forest Hills and Casa Linda ghetto? Or at least mostly ghetto?
What about Preston Hollow, west of the tollway? There seem to be a lot of affordable homes around Walnut Hill and Webb Chapel, but I know nothing about the area, other than it seems to have fairly low crime rate compared to other parts of the city on police maps.
Richardson has several areas that are nice. It's lovely in the fall.
