Purse Kit
You know how sometimes people sell fake watches or purses to con you? Can that happen with a car?
Like if you go to buy a Ferrari or Lotus or something could it be a kit car with some stolen Ferrari engine?
Not to that extreme, no.
However in the classic and vintage market there is something like that. People will buy base model cars and male 'clones' of mroe desireable cars. I have seen people with cloned Shelby Mustangs, CamaroZ28s, and Challenger RTs.
They paid all the money for those cars without getting an expert evaluation. They guy with the Challenger thought he had a super-rare RT 440 mag with 4 spd. The build plate on the car was a plain-jane 318 automatic. Its a nice car, but as a clone not worth what he paid.
On late models that is nearly impossible. VINs make it so that you cant clone cars easily. Course, I see "Type R" stickers on everything from Civics to Geos...
