Original Modern

Do you cite the original publishing company and date or the modern version?

I'm doing a bibliography and one of my pieces is Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. It says First Anchor Books Edition, February 1997 Copyright 1996 by Jon Krakauer, Originally published in hardcover in the United States by Villard Books in 1996. Which one do I use?

I'd cite it (in APA anyway) as:

Krakauer, Jon (1997). Into the wild. New York: Anchor Books.

In other words, you need to cite the edition you're actually referencing (the one in your hands), not the original printing.
