What type of titanium dioxide are used for Sunscreen?
Im intending to buy titanium dioxide. So I found that titanium dioxide (rutile anatase) - i do not know what it means anatase rutile, but is this the type of titanium dioxide used for sunscreens? If please help. Best answer gets my vote
Anatase and rutile are two different minerals, but both are the molecular formula dioxide titanium. Other minerals is brookite. Rutile is the one you are looking for. Nanoscale particles of rutile are transparent to visible light, but are very effective in absorbing ultraviolet radiation. The UV absorption of rutile nanoparticles is blue-shifted relative to bulk rutile, so that more energy UV light is absorbed by the nanoparticles.
