Clay Cane
Why keep breaking my polymer clay?
Everything I do seems very fragile. I gave up a two-inch baked item on the table, and crack! Breaks in half. When I make walking sticks, cook, and slice them, they crumble at the edges. It is no clay child, I bought the expensive brands recommended polymer, so what's wrong? I know it must not be present fragile. I follow the cooking instructions to the letter. I tried to heat a little less, a little more. Slightly shorter time in the oven a little longer. Nothing does not work! Help!
What is exactly the type of clay you use? You mentioned the brands recommended. Well, such a mark that "Sculpey" (and "Sculpey is just a" brand "name) has different strengths of clays in their line of clay. SculpeyIII is fragile after firing. However, Premo Sculpey is not. In fact, you can deploy it for bookmarks and fold it in half without breaking. I'm curious to know why you rods are your baking before slicing. The majority of clayers slice of their sticks before cooking. The only other exception I've heard of the nails is for art, which they very edge of tiny tiny thin sticks after cooking. Is this your oven accurate? If the clay does not reach 275F if does not heal, no matter how long you leave in. You never want to raise the temperature at 295F. It will create toxic fumes. Never shorten cooking time.
